Keep your imagination out of my pants

Irmo High principal announces resignation over Gay-Straight Alliance

A quote from the principal: I feel the formation of a Gay/Straight Alliance Club at Irmo High school implies that students joining the club will have chosen to or will choose to engage in sexual activity with members of the same sex, opposite sex, or members of both sexes.

You know, I'm glad he's removing himself from the school instead of sticking around to be the nookie police. It's not surprising to me that, when people like him think about gays, they automatically make the mental leap to imagining gays having sex together, and then getting all offended. I wonder, do these same folks immediately imagine a man-woman couple having sex if they see those people holding hands in public? I would imagine that they don't, usually, yet they make that mental leap when same-sex couples are holding hands.

So we have silly Mr. Principal here, who, because it's a club involving gays, is now suddenly imagining this club apparently engaging in mass orgies, both hetero- and homosexual, and it makes him feel funny inside. I have a tip for him, though: Keep your thoughts out of other people's pants, and you'll live a more comfortable life. I am wondering what he'd do if he were running a nursing home, and then suddenly discovered that some of the old people actually have sex with each other. "Ew, yuck, omg"? I don't know. I also wonder if he banned prom night, since pretty much everyone gets laid on prom night...

Ugh. Irmo was my high school's main rival, and I'm still finding reasons to hate them after all these years. This was the same high school who, about 10-12 years ago made national news for cancelling an Indigo Girls concert. (Personally, I don't think at a high school during school hours is the time to have any band play, but that's not the reason why the concert was cancelled.) They also have height/weight requirements for cheerleaders and colorguard members, so they're not exactly a friendly institution.

My god, this just boggles my mind. Not only do you have to be a bigot, but you have to be some kind of mental midget to hear references to sexual preferences and immediately jump to "OH NOES TEH GAYZ HAVN SEX NOES!" I mean, come on, Gay-Straight Alliances are pretty common clubs these days. Even though I haven't searched, I think they have a main website for the clubs and everything, with a mission statement (which I can assure you has nothing to do with seeking out people to bang. Godz).

My high school had a Gay-Straight Alliance with about thirty to forty members. It was cool. Most of us were friends anyway, and sometimes shy people from the new grades would gratefully join, glad they had a place to be accepted. By the time I was a senior the GSA was a really cool club. We had lots of preps/jocks/typical cool people who joined, some who were straight, some who were not.

Maybe my high school was an anomaly, but I doubt it. Oh yeah, and as for teh sex part? We had a pizza party after school once. We had all had to take the late bus home. And you know what? NO SEX! (gasps) ;)

Hey, I didn't get laid on prom night! Dang... too late now. :)

I just don't get this sort of thing. I don't play chess but it doesn't mean I don't think there should be a chess club.

I was going to say I think it reasonable to say that you don't agree with the lifestyle but you support the student's rights to have a club. But no, I don't think that's reasonable either. The man's personal feelings/beliefs about other people's business play no role whatsoever in this.
